10-30-09 BlogQuestion: What science ideas did you learn?
Answer: I learned many science ideas through out this week. In the beggining of the the week we started learning about cells. We strted with the cheek cell which is a form of animal cell. We learned that there are millions of cells in our bodies and how different cells make up different parts of our body. We learned about plant cells and their structure. We also learned about the different ways scientists dye cells to make them easier to see. As you can see we learned mny new science ideas this week in class.
Question: How did you learn these ideas?
Answer: We learned these science ideas in many different ways. One way we learned these ideas was class discussion in which we talked in class and made decisions based on that. Also we had "lectures" in which Mr. Finley or Mr. Seigan would explain what we are supposed to get to in a disscusion. We also learned by looking at cells and their structure through a microscope and recording what we see. We also researched cell structure online to get a more reinforced idea of what we were looking at.
Question: Why is it important to know this idea(What real world application is there)?
Answer: There are man real world applications to what we do in science class. Using a microscope will help if you are a doctor or scientist examining cells or bacterial colonies. Knowledge of how to dye cells and examine them would help scientists study cells and their structure. Knowing that there are two kinds of cells is essential if you want to study animals or plants. Knowing plant and animal cell structure will help to study and catalog a new kind of cell found in plant or animal. As you can see there are many real world applications to what we learn in science class.
