Question: What science ideas did you learn?
Answer: We learned many new science ideas this week in class. This week we began the reproductive unit by answering a few questions and starting a table of answers for them. The next day we started taking an in-depth look at cellular reproduction or mitosis. We learned about what needs to happen before a cell can split and form two new cells. The process that needs to happen is called mitosis. There are several stages of mitosis in which different things happen to the cell. These stages are, Interphase, Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anapahse, Telephase, and at the end, cytokinesis. Finaly. looked at these stages using a microsope and a simulation.
Question: How did you learn these ideas?
Answer: We learned these ideas many different ways.In the beggining of the week we had some projects that needed to be presented, so we learned a bit more about photosythesis. After that we had a class discussion and we went off to answer some questions as a group. The next day we began an experiment about cellular reproduction in which we look at a root tip through a microscope so we can observe reproduction happening. We took notes and drew diagrams of what was happening so we could use them for further reference. We had homework that night and we disussed the answers the next day in class. Finaly used a simulation to look at mitosis and we compared this to what was happening in the microscope.
Question: Why is it important to know these ideas(What real world application is there)?
Answer: There are many real world applications to what we learned in science class. Presentations are essential not only as a student but as an adult as well. Disscussions with small or large groups is needed if you want to make it as an adult. Working with a partner helps to share ideas and get ideas moving as well as helping to split work. Observation skills are necesary for many jobs that need a keen eye. Finaly all the ideas we learned about science are needed if you want to be a scientist.
